Saint Martin Pale Terracotta Tiles | Handmade Natural Clay Flooring
The Saint Martin Pale Terracotta Tiles by Baked Earth are handmade from 100% natural clay using traditional terracotta tile-making methods. Designed to appeal to both UK and international interiors, these tiles offer an authentic pale terracotta finish with natural variation, making them ideal for classic, rustic, Mediterranean, and contemporary spaces.
Each tile is individually crafted, ensuring unique colour and texture variation across every floor. The soft pale finish is achieved using a traditional technique involving rice crop shells, which are blended into a fine powder foam and applied to the surface of the terracotta tiles while they are still partially wet. This natural process lightens the clay tones and creates the distinctive chalky, sun-washed appearance that defines the Saint Martin Pale terracotta range.
After surface treatment, the tiles are slowly fired in a traditional wood-fired kiln for approximately three to four weeks. This extended firing process enhances strength and durability while producing organic tonal variations, from soft creams and sandy beiges to subtle blush and warm earthy hues. Once removed from the kiln, excess surface dust is wiped away to reveal a natural pale matte finish.
As with all authentic handmade terracotta tiles, no two pieces are exactly alike. This natural variation is a key characteristic of real terracotta flooring and adds warmth, depth, and timeless character to residential and commercial interiors worldwide.
Saint Martin Pale Terracotta Tiles are suitable for kitchens, living rooms, hallways, and open-plan spaces. When correctly sealed and maintained, natural terracotta flooring ages beautifully, developing richer character over time and making it a durable, long-lasting, and sustainable flooring choice for both UK and international projects.
